Ruiru Sports Club
Ruiru Sports Club
Ruiru Sports Club is located a few minutes from Nairobi on Thika Super Highway. It is one of the oldest clubs in Kenya. The course is characterized by slanting fairways and small green. It is definitely a gem within the proximity of Nairobi. With current development to improve the fairways and add irrigation, it’s soon going to compete favorably with the better club in the country.

Hole 3 – Par 3 184 yards. S.I. 14
Choose your club carefully on this mid-length par 3. The green is protected by bunkers on the front right and front left.

Hole 4 – Par 4 439 yards. S.I. 2
The fairway on this hole slopes heaving right to left. There’s a big tree on the right side of the fairway that makes it even harder to choose a shot shape of line. Hole 5 – Par 4 359 yards. S.I. 12
This is a short hole that will be inviting to long hitters to go for it on their drives. The green small, relatively flat and is protected by bunkers on the front right and on the left.

Hole 7 – Par 4 430 yards S.I. 4
This is a long par four but it’s relatively straight. Favor center or center left of the fairway on your tee shot. There’s a bunker on the left side of the green. The green slopes back to front.

Hole 8 – Par 4 309 yards. S.I. 8
This dogleg right hole is first of few holes that you have to deal with a water hazard. Challenge the length of this water hazard and long hitters have a chance to drive the green. Your pro aim line is just right of the palm tree. But is you slice your dead. There’s a bunker protecting the green in the front. Green is relatively flat and gives you a chance to try for a birdie.

Hole 9 – Par 5 543 yards. S.I. 10
An interesting par 5 with a big tree right in the middle of the fairway that makes the placement of your drive very important. Favor either right or left side of fairway for a chance to go for it in two. There’s a bunker protection the green on the right and OB if you go long.

Hole 12 – Par 5 421 yards. S.I. 3
A long par 5 with OB on the right and trees on the left. It plays pretty straight forward. Play three good shots and you’ll have a chance to get an easy birdie.

Hole 13 – Par 3 243 yards. S.I. 17
What you see if what you get on this par 3. Proper club selection is key to getting that easy par or good birdie.

Hole 15 – Par 3 118 yards. S.I. 15
A shot par 3 with a water hazard that you have to carry all the way. As if that was not a challenge enough, there are two bunkers right before the green. The green is generous, tiered and undulating adding to the difficulties on this short hole. Find a way to make a par and head to the next hole happy.

Hole 14 – Par 5 624 yards. S.I. 1
Another long par 5 that’s straight. The green is protected by bunkers on front left and on the right. Green slopes left to right.

Hole 16 – Par 5 529 yards. S.I. 5
A mid-length, straight par 5 that will reward you if you stay on the fairway. Nothing much to this hole, play it as you see it and get your birdie.

Hole 17 – Par 4 429 yards. S.I. 11
A long dogleg left par 4 with trees on the left. The green is raised so you’ll have to choose your shot carefully to land and stay on this green.

Hole 18 – Par 4 348 yards. S.I. 9
This is the signature hole on this course. You’ll have to hit your tee shot over a huge water hazard. Long hitters can be aggressive and take on with hazard to leave themselves a short pitch to the green. Otherwise be safe and finish your round on a good note by challenging less of the hazard.
